Gathering at the Gazebo

A yearly vacation ritual is a visit to
my wife's extended family's summer
home on Lake Champlain near
Vergennes, Vermont. It's her
favorite place in the world, I
believe, full of wonderful childhood
memories. Each year her side of
the family has been invited to
share a few days of good times
getting reaquainted with far away
relations--to boat, swim, walk in the
woods and fields, to play
games(indoors and out), to share
meals, read in the parlor and
especially to endlessly visit at the
big kitchen table, on a long
screened porch veranda, or at this
lovely gazebo overlooking the lake.
Occasionally one or another of us
will paint or sketch--there are a
number of artists in the family--as I
did on many relaxing afternoons
there.
