Monhegan Island Dock Street
Sketchbook Drawing
11x14" unmatted

A nearly timeless view of the
Monhegan Island Dock; and in the
distance, out-lying Manana Island,
which forms the channel harbor. The
obstinate native lobstermen and
resident artists resist change and only
tolerate visitors with resonable good
nature for their benefit to the local
economy. Nonetheless, off-islander
artists like my wife and myself, as well
as a number of other hearty
vacationers, enjoy the addictive
beauty of the place to paint, hike,
birdwatch, or simply relax in what
amounts to another world. With no
paved roads, no cars, and limited
accomodations, you get a sense of
what life was like a hundred years ago.
