The Empty Sea
20x26" matted and framed

I did this painting on location on the
southern end of Monhegan Island, a
well-known artists' colony off the coast
of Maine. A far off-shore hurricane was
passing by in early September, and
that brings big surf. On such days, the
island artists turn out along the islets
and bays of the island to paint, and
this was one of my plein air efforts to
capture the huge shorebound waves.
