The John LaFarge House
watercolor
20x26" matted and framed

This is one of the houses where the
well-known American Art Deco
designer and painter John LaFarge
lived and worked in Middletown, Rhode
island. You can walk out beyond the
rolling lawns to a cliff ledge which
overlooks Narragansett Bay. LaFarge
painted that water view many times.
The house itself is a wonderful
gingerbread Victorian with his nearby
studio also preserved, and with
beautiful surrounding gardens. The
present owners are responsible for this
well-maintained property. Having
invited my wife and I and a group of
fellow plein-air artists to paint there,
they qualify as good stewards and
patrons of the arts. This large
watercolor of mine is one result of their
good-will.
