Boats at Mooring on the Bay
watercolor 10x16"
sold
This scene of bobbing sailboats at their moorings is a familar sight in the
summer on Narragansett Bay. The light on water and the white of the boats
was achieved by scratching with the blade of a knife into the dried
watercolor paint, an effect I like better than using white paint. Many
watercolor artists use this technique, including John Singer Sargent. It was
taught to me by the wonderful Rhode Island watercolor painter, Richard
Grosvenor. The painting was sold during the annual Artists for Save the
Bay fundraising event in Rhode Island. I thank the generous purchaser.
