Old Barns in a Snowstorm
oil 8x10" and somewhat larger framed
Part of a series of barn paintings in the
snow I've done during the coming
colder months of the year. This is
weather to put on the boots,
cross-country skis, snow-shoes, or if
very lucky, get a sleigh ride and
pretend you're part of a Currier and
Ives scene come to life. My father's
family lived on farms like this. It was a
Sunday ritual to visit my grandparents
every Sunday of my childhood. Often
times, in winter, we'd have an over the
river and through the woods
experience just as I've painted. The
actual barns portrayed are part of
Coggleshell Farm in Rhode Island.
