Dust over Monhegan Island
watercolor
14x18" mattted and framed

A very loose interpretation of the view
from the house we rent on Monhegan
Island each fall. It pictures the sun
setting the edge of Manana Island,
sister island off Monhegan which forms
the harbor. The painting was done on
Yupo paper, which allows the
watercolor pigment to float over the
surface without soaking in,  thus
creating a beautiful mingling of colors.
I'd like to say the painting paints itself
in this way, and in a way it does, but
those who have tried 'Yupoing" know
the timing of laying on paint is even
more critical to get any realistic detail.
