Waterfire, Providence Place
oil 16x20" and somewhat more framed,
Price Available upon Request
This night scene is well known to Rhode
Islanders--both the flaming wood bonfires
reflecting into the river during a "Waterfire"
celebration, and the illuminated facade of
Providence Place, its huge downtown
shopping arcade in the center of the captial
city. Hidden in the darkness are crowds of
happy citizens enjoying the sight, the sounds
of music, the art and sculpture, and the
tastes of wonderful food, all of which
Providence offers in abundance. This oil
painting also was my submission to the
annual "Scenes of Rhode Island" exhibition
which our governor sponsors along with the
Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. We
aritsts get to honor and be honored by the
state we love to paint throughout the year. My
wife, Gail Armstrong, won first prize at the
exhibition several years ago, so it holds a
special place in our hearts.
